Campaign Responses

Every day, I receive dozens of campaign emails from constituents concerned about a huge variety of national issues. While individual constituency enquiries will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume of campaign emails now being generated, I can no longer guarantee replying to these individually and am therefore posting my responses on this section of my website.

The UK Internal Market Bill

Thank you for contacting me about the United Kingdom Internal Market Bill.

This Bill seeks to ensure businesses across the whole of the United Kingdom will continue to enjoy seamless internal trade, as they have done for centuries, after the transition period ends on 31 December 2020.

Planning reforms

Thank you for contacting me about the newly announced planning reforms.

Thank you for contacting me about the fur trade.

Heat Pumps

Thank you for contacting me about heat pumps.

I am particularly interested to hear from someone with knowledge of the heat pumps sector as one of the hardest things to decarbonise is heat and I am convinced heat pumps are central to achieving net zero.

Environment Bill

As set out in the 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment, the decision to leave the European Union has created an historic opportunity to deliver a Green Brexit, where environmental standards are not only maintained but enhanced.

Climate Change

Thank you for contacting me about climate change.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges we face, and I can assure you that I recognise the importance and urgency of action on this issue.

Agriculture Bill

Thank you for contacting me about support for farmers in Agriculture Bill.

Thank you very much indeed for your email about diabetes.

Please allow me to assure you that ensuring the best possible care for all people with diabetes is available to patients as well as tackling the causes of diabetes as far as possible remain key priorities for the Government.

Thank you for contacting me about the rainforests.

TV licence fee for pensioners

Thank you for contacting me about the future of the TV licence fee for pensioners.

The BBC’s decision to stop funding free TV licences for all over 75s from June 2020 is very disappointing.

Horse tethering

Thank you for contacting me about horse tethering and the ‘#BreakTheChain’ campaign by the equestrian charity, HorseWorld.

Animal cruelty sentencing

Thank you for contacting me about animal cruelty sentencing.

I understand your concerns on this issue and I agree that there is no place in this country for animal cruelty. I want to make sure that those who abuse animals are met with the full force of the law.

Wind Farms

Thank you for contacting me about onshore wind farms.

I am pleased that clean growth has been placed at the heart of the new Industrial Strategy which aims to cut emissions while keeping costs down for consumers, create high value jobs and to grow the economy.

Climate Change

I firmly believe in protecting both the UK's vibrant ecosystem and the natural environment worldwide. I am encouraged that the first progress report of the Government’s ambitious 25 Year Environment Plan found that 90 per cent of the priority actions have been delivered or are on track for delivery. I believe this clearly demonstrates our commitment to improve the environment within a generation.
