Campaign Responses

Every day, I receive dozens of campaign emails from constituents concerned about a huge variety of national issues. While individual constituency enquiries will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume of campaign emails now being generated, I can no longer guarantee replying to these individually and am therefore posting my responses on this section of my website.

TV licence fee for pensioners

Thank you for contacting me about the future of the TV licence fee for pensioners.

The BBC’s decision to stop funding free TV licences for all over 75s from June 2020 is very disappointing.

Horse tethering

Thank you for contacting me about horse tethering and the ‘#BreakTheChain’ campaign by the equestrian charity, HorseWorld.

Animal cruelty sentencing

Thank you for contacting me about animal cruelty sentencing.

I understand your concerns on this issue and I agree that there is no place in this country for animal cruelty. I want to make sure that those who abuse animals are met with the full force of the law.

Wind Farms

Thank you for contacting me about onshore wind farms.

I am pleased that clean growth has been placed at the heart of the new Industrial Strategy which aims to cut emissions while keeping costs down for consumers, create high value jobs and to grow the economy.

Climate Change

I firmly believe in protecting both the UK's vibrant ecosystem and the natural environment worldwide. I am encouraged that the first progress report of the Government’s ambitious 25 Year Environment Plan found that 90 per cent of the priority actions have been delivered or are on track for delivery. I believe this clearly demonstrates our commitment to improve the environment within a generation.
