Scarborough was to be the location for the UK's first indoor LEGOLAND attraction.

David Rhodes, managing director of Benchmark Leisure, the firm behind the £150 million Sands development and council officers had been in negotiation with Merlin Entertainments - Europe's largest visitor attraction operator for months, about bringing a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to the town.

The owner of the Victoria Road Post Office described yesterday's closure as "a sad day" for both him and his customers.

Local MP Robert Goodwill joined hundreds of pig farmers from across the country and veteran campaigner ‘Winnie the Pig’ to call for fairer prices for pig farmers.

The ‘Pigs are worth it! Rally’ aimed to secure support from MPs and Peers for fair prices for British pig farmers who have the highest animal welfare standards in the world.
Consumers have said they are happy to pay more for high welfare pork to help farmers and over 13,000 have signed a petition presented to Downing Street.

Robert Goodwill MP and students from Scarborough VI Form College and Whitby Community College returned from the Holocaust Educational Trust’s regional visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau on Thursday 21st February vowing to act on the lessons learned from the experience. Robert joined more than 200 other students from Yorkshire and Humberside, on the Project which explores the universal lessons of the Holocaust and its relevance for today.

MPs praise commando spirit during Afghan visit

A group of MPs have been learning about military operations during a visit to British troops currently serving in southern Afghanistan.

Royal Marines from 40 Commando shared their evening meal with the MPs, from the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, and told them about life on the front line in Helmand Province. James Gray, MP for North Wiltshire, spoke to men from 40 Commando's Alpha Company based at Forward Operating Base Inkerman, which is notorious for seeing action against enemy forces almost every day. He said:
"The lads from Inkerman were very professional and I was struck by how intelligent they were.

"I had a stereotype in my mind of Royal Marines as rough, tough and not particularly smart, but I could not have been more wrong. These men had lived, worked and fought in incredibly difficult conditions and could not have been older than their early 20s, but they were not fazed at all. I was incredibly impressed."
The marines recounted stories of their lives over the past four months, since arriving in Afghanistan, including how they had made the best of the basic conditions at Inkerman and maintained morale with the Corps' famous sense of humour in adversity.

The MPs were speaking to them after the men had come back to Camp Bastion, the UK's main base in Helmand Province, in order to fly home to their families for two weeks of well-earned rest before returning to their colleagues on the front line:
"They described being in fire fights where they were attacked from three sides simultaneously," James Gray continued. "But they didn't brag or glorify anything - they were just calm, collected and extremely professional. Less than 24 hours earlier these men had been on the front line fighting."

Robert Goodwill MP entered the world of pharmaceutical research for a couple of hours last week. At a reception in Parliament held by the ABPI Northern Pharmaceutical Group on Wednesday 23rd January, members of the pharmaceutical industry based in the north travelled to the House of Commons in Westminster to meet with Mr Goodwill.

Robert Goodwill MP took a break from heavyweight politics when he had his Body Mass Index (BMI) measured at an event organised by Cancer Research UK in Parliament.

It was part of a drive to raise awareness of the impact of obesity on cancer risk and the importance of maintaining a healthy weight.
